Accessibility
Complimentary Tickets for Personal Support Workers: Personal Support Workers will be admitted free of charge when supporting a person with a disability at the Toronto International Storytelling Festival. Please contact festivaladministration@storytellingtoronto.org for more information, or ask about this offer at the door.
Physical Accessibility at Our Venues: Almost all of our programming takes place in spaces that are accessible, and all venues will have staff and volunteers on hand to assist patrons with any questions about accessible spaces. Please note that the Anglican Church of the Epiphany & St. Mark (201 Cowan Avenue) does not have an accessible washroom. Arrangements have been made for patrons to use the barrier-free washrooms directly across from the venue at the Masaryk-Cowan Community Recreation Centre (220 Cowan Avenue). Volunteers will be available for any patrons that require assistance getting to the Community Centre.
Priority Seating: We will be offering priority seating close to the stage for patrons who will benefit from it. Feel free to let staff or volunteers know if you would like to access priority seating.
Auditory Accessibility: Storytelling Toronto recognizes that the oral delivery of stories can be inaccessible to those in our community who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. We are providing the following measures to make each event more accessible:
- Storytellers will be using microphones to amplify their voices as much as possible
- Priority seating will be made available to audience members that need to be close to our tellers for hearing or lip-reading purposes
- We are hosting two online concerts (Student Showcase and StoryTent) where auto-generated captioning will be available
Sensory Accommodations: All of our free family programming on Sunday June 16th will be sensory-friendly for those who prefer to experience storytelling in a more relaxed environment.
At these events:
- House lights will remain on at all times
- Movement, noise, and exit/re-entry are welcome at any point
- Stories will be family-friendly in nature
